This is one of my must-haves with my small groups!
It's a terrific (and fun!) way to perform a quick assessment.

I printed it out on bright colored paper, inserted it into a sheet protector, and added dice!

Have a wonderful week!

Want a fun way to get your young students counting?  Try Number Aerobics.  Students do an assigned movement for each set of ten, as they count.  Students work on sets of ten and get kids moving at the same time.  Download theseposters for free from my blog – Raki’s Rad Resources.

Have your students struggled with interpreting remainders? To do it, students must really understand what the word problem is asking. As part of the Common Core Math Standards, kids must know how to do it. These three posters and handout can help.

Happy Teaching!

I have two sets of my Common Core Math Warm Ups that are perfect for 1st grade!

The first set practices Kindergarten and 1st grade math standards.  Most of the standards just build off of each other or relate.  It's great for the fall semester of first grade because you're reviewing and solidifying students' abilities with current skills.

The second set practices just the 1st grade standards.  It includes many more of the standards than the first set (and only is missing two measurement standards related to non-standard measurement).  They're both set up in the same, student-friendly way.  The feedback I've gotten from both has been great! :)

Do you use journals in your classroom?  I like to use them for independent writing activities during Work on Writing for Daily 5.  Or, I like to use them as centers activities, morning work, or during other independent work time.  I think it helps build students' abilities to respond to a prompt, and gets them writing creatively.  I use journaling in many different formats but this one is versatile and can be used whenever.

Just click the picture below to check it out more and download it for free for yourself!

This is a quick and easy icebreaker for the 1st week of school, that's a fun way to help students get to know their classmates.

Completed projects make a cute bulletin board.  (I added some wiggle eyes and a photo for some extra pizzazz and the finishing touch.)

I've provided a large owl with the questions; you can display it in the middle of the board, with your students' owls surrounding it.
